Celebrating 100 Years: A Story of Health, Resilience, and Vertebroplasty Success
by ARA Health Specialists
At ARA Health, we’re always honored to hear about the lasting impact of our treatments on patients’ lives. Recently, Dr. Jonas Goldstein received a heartfelt update from Trudy, whose mother, Mabel, was one of the first patients to undergo vertebroplasty at our Asheville office on Ashland Avenue. The procedure, performed in 2008, helped restore Mabel’s quality of life—and her remarkable journey continues to inspire us in 2024.
Mabel recently celebrated her 100th birthday on March 29, 2024, with her family, including her two great-grandchildren from Reigate, UK. She remains active, walking daily, enjoying trips to the beach, and cherishing time with loved ones. Her resilience reminds us of the vital role advanced treatments like vertebroplasty play in improving mobility and reducing pain for patients with spinal fractures.
A Legacy Rooted in Asheville’s History
Mabel’s story is also a thread in Asheville’s rich tapestry. Her family lived in Biltmore during the historic flood of 1916, and her grandfather, Joseph Newton Miller, contributed to the construction of All Souls Episcopal Church in the late 1800s. These stories highlight the deep connection between health, family, and community—values we strive to uphold in our practice every day.
Innovative Care for Long-Lasting Impact
Vertebroplasty is just one of the many advanced, minimally invasive treatments we offer at ARA Health. Designed to provide relief from painful vertebral compression fractures, this procedure helps patients regain mobility and live fuller lives. Mabel’s success story is a testament to the power of early intervention and specialized care.
